KOLKATA: From poor roads and encroachments by dwellers to unscrupulous promoters looking for empty houses and parking problems, the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is trying to sort out these issues with active cooperation of Salt Lake residents.
BMC board of administrators (BoA) chairperson Krishna Chakraborty held an interactive meeting with residents of Salt Lake CJ Block on Sunday as part of the BMC’s ‘your co-ordinator in your block’ initiative.
Chakraborty said that BMC is taking up a pre-Puja road patchwork across Salt Lake and Rajarhat. She also urged residents to take snapshots of bad roads and Whatsapp the photos to her.
“We had earlier submitted a Rs 200 crore road repair DPR to the government and have received some funds. All ward coordinators have been asked to inform which stretches are in most damaged shape so that funds could be sanctioned and those spots could be repaired on an urgent basisWe are working to complete patch work before Pujas,” Chakraborty said.
She reiterated residents to submit documents as to which houses are being given on rent to tenants. “There are unscrupulous promoters who are looking for houses that are empty so that they can take possession of them,” she said.
Chakraborty said there are several shanties along Kestopur canal and that the civic authorities would be seeking government help to come up with a solution to this problem. “Waste is being dumped on the canal which is resulting in silt accumulation. We are not in favour of eviction but there can be a rehabilitation plan for shanty dwellers and other encroachers,” Chakraborty said.
She said Salt Lake now gets adequate filtered water.
