KOLKATA: From motorbikes to diamond necklace, mobile phones to laptops, Bidhannagar City Police has enhanced the drive to return lost or stolen articles to rightful owners following all legal protocols.
A Saturday evening exercise, initiated by Kolkata Police some five years ago, has now expanded into a full-on drive by Bidhannagar cops.
When Sanjay Chirania received a call from Lake Town police station last week asking him to collect his laptop, he couldn’t believe his ears. “I had lost hope of getting the laptop back. The cops have put in a great effort,” he said.
Second-year college student Soumili Baidya, whose mobile phone got stolen on train two months ago, said, “I had lodged a complaint at Kanchrapara station and had given up hopes of getting it back. I was surprised to get the call.”
Police received large numbers of stolen items from a receiver from Hanskhali, following arrest of two women of Banjara gang. “We found a large number of phones along with other items. The man used to smuggle them to Bangladesh via Basirhat and Malda,” said an official.
On Friday, cops returned three bikes, three laptops, 28 mobile phones, 10 jewellery sets and one watch.
