WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his gratitude for the work done by outgoing Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, saying he hopes to seek advice from the Japanese leader after he steps down.
First lady Jill Biden accompanied her husband when the two leaders spoke for about 10 minutes at the White House on Friday.
The U.S. president said he would miss his Japanese counterpart. "The importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance will not change in the future," Suga replied.
At the Quad summit meeting held earlier in the day among the leaders of Japan, the United States, India and Australia, Suga expressed his gratitude for the U.S. decision to lift its ban on Japanese food imports, saying it was a "major step in supporting the reconstruction of areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake."
