WASHINGTON _ Joe Biden told donors Thursday that the trio of high-profile endorsements he got this week has triggered a surge in fundraising, earning him more money in the last few days than he has received throughout the entirety of his campaign.
Biden said his campaign raised $2.75 million on Wednesday, the day Sen. Elizabeth Warren endorsed his campaign and the day after former President Barack Obama did. The day before, Biden said he raised $2.5 million online, the day after Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed.
"They've all gone to their lists, to their volunteers," he said. "They put out a request from them to join me. We've raised more money online because of these folks than we ever have."
Biden and the Democratic National Committee combined for $26.2 million cash on hand at the end of February, a small fraction of the $225 million that President Donald Trump, the Republican National Committee and their joint fundraising committees had amassed through the same period. Campaigns and parties report March fundraising numbers to the Federal Election Commission on Monday. Trump and the RNC announced his committees raised $63 million last month and started April with $240 million in the bank.
Biden shared the fundraising numbers after being asked by a donor how the former presidential candidates who endorsed him would be involved in the campaign. Biden also shared that he spoke with Warren on Thursday.
"They have united in a way that I don't think we have ever fully united before because they know the alternative," Biden said about his former competitors.
The virtual fundraiser was hosted by Gene Ludwig, the founder and CEO of Promontory Financial Group, and his wife, Carol Ludwig, a neurologist.
