Biden's Approval Rating Hits Historic Low Amid Immigration Crisis

Biden's presidential approval rating is at a historic low of 39%.

In a recent poll on first-term presidential approval ratings before a presidential election, President Biden finds himself in a precarious position with an approval rating of just 39%. Comparatively, previous presidents such as Donald Trump, Obama, George W. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, and Carter all enjoyed stronger approval ratings during this phase of their respective terms.

These numbers paint a bleak picture for President Biden, particularly in light of the fact that his 39% approval rating is a historic low since polling began in the 1930s. Despite the president's claims that polls are not significant, it is evident that he recognizes the urgent need for a strategic shift.

The economy and immigration emerge as key issues affecting President Biden's standing. While he has attempted to promote his economic agenda, coined as 'Bidenomics,' the polling data shows that it has not resonated well with the public. Voters seemingly have shifted their focus to the defense of democracy, which has seen a surge in support.

Regarding immigration, the situation at the southern border is taking a toll on the president and his administration. The ongoing crisis and the administration's perceived failure to adequately address it have become problematic. The inability to provide a decisive response to this issue could have dire consequences for President Biden's chances in the 2024 election.

The Republican presidential candidates have capitalized on this vulnerability, advocating for measures such as utilizing the military to protect the southern border, reenacting the 'remain in Mexico' policy, and employing lethal force to deter migrants. Their staunch stance on immigration appeals to many voters who view the current system as broken and favor stricter policies.

Disturbingly, the polling indicates that even within President Biden's own party, support for his handling of the immigration issue is waning. A significant number of voters, including Democrats, believe that the number of border crossings has increased under the president's leadership. Furthermore, seven in ten voters, including six in ten Democrats, feel that stricter immigration policies should be implemented.

The political ramifications of these numbers cannot be understated. The president needs to address the concerns surrounding immigration quickly, as it is no longer just a Republican issue. Democrats, too, are expressing dissatisfaction with the current situation, particularly in urban centers that are bearing the brunt of the consequences.

In light of the dire poll numbers on both the economy and immigration, President Biden finds himself in a precarious position. It is crucial for his administration to take immediate and decisive action to address these pressing issues. With the 2024 presidential race on the horizon, electoral success will hinge on his ability to navigate these challenges effectively.
