Biden Books Struggle To Compete With Trump Best-Sellers

Recent reports indicate that books about President Biden are struggling to match the success of best-selling books about the Trump administration. This trend has led to some accounts of the current White House occupant being canceled altogether.

One such example is the withdrawal of a book contract by publisher Simon and Schuster with Alex Thompson, Axios’ national political correspondent, for a book about the Biden administration. Originally scheduled for early release this year, the book faced challenges in the market.

Thompson confirmed the news of the contract cancellation but mentioned that he is still working on the book with a new target release year of 2025 to tell the story of the Biden presidency.

Books focusing on Biden's presidency have reportedly not performed well in terms of sales when compared to best-sellers about former President Donald Trump. For instance, Gabriel Debenedetti's 'The Long Alliance' sold around 1,500 hardcover copies, Chris Whipple’s ‘The Fight of His Life’ sold around 5,000 copies, and Franklin Foer‘s 'The Last Politician' sold around 12,000 copies.

In contrast, Michael Wolff's book 'Fire and Fury' reportedly sold almost 1 million copies, indicating a significant disparity in readership between books about Biden and Trump.

Wolff's sequel to 'Fire and Fury,' titled 'Siege: Trump Under Fire,' continued to portray the Trump administration as facing challenges from various fronts. The original book had stirred controversy by including negative claims about the president and his family, such as doubts about Trump's mental fitness and reported mocking of Don Jr. and Jared Kushner by Steve Bannon.
