Bideford tops staycation wish-list but resorts in Wales dominate bookings for 2022

Staycation breaks are expected to remain hugely popular in the coming year with families still keen to holiday at home rather than travel overseas.

UK holiday rental marketplace, Snaptrip, has revealed its latest booking report, which shows the most popular planned destinations for 2022.

The North Devon town of Bideford has clinched the top spot, ahead of other popular destinations in Devon and the Lake District as well as the most popular location for 2021, Whitby, which now sits within the top five.

Bideford is a historic harbour town on the estuary of the River Torridge, packed with independent shops, local producers and picturesque quayside.

Newquay on the coast of Cornwall and the beautiful Lake District town of Keswick sit in second and third in the line up - so expect nostalgic seaside holidays and countryside escapes to remain trending for the new year.

While Whitby was crowned as the most popular staycation spot for 2021, the seaside town currently sits in fourth place looking ahead to 2022. Shaking up previous top destination lists, several towns in Wales now feature in the top 10, with Brecon taking its place in the top five for the very first time.

Matt Fox, Snaptrip founder, said: "After a surge in staycations last year it’s encouraging to see new, lesser known beauty spots across the UK be recognised as ideal places for a holiday.

“With six destinations in Wales seeing the largest increase in bookings for 2021, including the town of Llandovery with the highest increase of 669%, and several locations making the hotspot list for 2022, we would expect to see UK holidays in Wales continue to trend.”
