Bid to trace woman who rushed to aid of cyclist after smash involving van in Edinbugh's Southside

Police are looking to trace a woman who rushed to the aid of an injured cyclist following a crash involving a transit van in Edinburgh's Southside.

Witnesses are being sought following a collision on Mayfield Road, close to the junction with West Mains Road, at around 4.45pm yesterday (Thursday).

A 32-year-old female cyclist was hurt after she was struck by a grey Ford Transit. She suffered minor injuries was checked by ambulance crews at the scene.

The van driver stopped at the scene and provided his details to the cyclist.

Murrayburn Road was closed off by police as investigations into fatal accident continue

However, as the area was busy with motorists and pedestrians at the time, officers say they now want anyone who saw the smash to come forward.

In particular they want to hear from a woman who offered assistance to the cyclist at the time but did not leave her name.

PC Chris Beddows from Edinburgh's road policing unit said: "The area was busy at this time with pedestrians and motorists, so we believe people have witnessed this and can help with our enquiries.

"We're particularly eager to trace a woman who offered assistance to the cyclist at the scene but who, unfortunately, did not leave any details."

Those with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2713 of 21 March 2019.
