Bid to trace passengers who witnessed elderly woman being seriously injured on Fife bus

Police are looking to trace seven people who witnessed an elderly woman being seriously hurt on a Fife bus.

The 88-year-old sustained a head injury after falling forward when the vehicle she was on braked suddenly. Emergency services attended and the woman was rushed off to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment. She remains in a critical condition.

Officers say that the driver of the number 64 Moffat and Williamson service had to stop sharply to avoid a collision while travelling eastbound on Freuchie's East End at around 12pm yesterday (Monday). This caused the woman to fall forward.

There is now an appeal for seven passengers who were on the bus at the time, but remain unidentified, to come forward.

Sergeant Ewan Peace of Fife's Road Policing Unit said: "Sadly this incident has resulted in an elderly lady being seriously injured and we are eager to establish the full circumstances that occurred beforehand.

"I would ask anyone who was in Freuchie’s East End at lunchtime on Monday, 8 April and saw this incident to please contact police.

“I would also directly appeal to anyone who was on the bus to get in touch, particularly seven unidentified passengers who were on the number 64 Moffat and Williamson bus who have not made contact with police.

“Your information may be vital to our investigation and I would urge to get in touch with police at your earliest convenience.”
