A crowdfunder to save Edinburgh’s Filmhouse cinema has raised £764,000 – less than half its £2million target for a planned bid to buy the complex.
A group of former senior staff unveiled a buy-out bid last month after it was put on the open market.
The Lothian Road landmark has been home to the Filmhouse since 1978 and the headquarters of Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Both were run by the Centre for the Moving Image which pulled the plug in October, with the loss of 107 jobs.
It comes after Gregory Lynn, boss of the independent Prince Charles Cinema in London, said on Monday he was “gutted” after his bid to buy the Filmhouse was rejected.
