Bid to build flats on site of former pub rejected

Flats will not be built at the site of a former pub after Wirral Council rejected the plans.

The proposal would have seen 15 apartments built at the former Pool Inn on Poulton Bridge Road, in Poulton, Wirral.

But Wirral Council rejected Barry Lightburn’s application on the basis the size of the building would make it “dominant” in the neighbourhood and would therefore harm the area for those living nearby.

The plan would have seen a mixture of one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats built, with an empty site brought back into use.

The design and access statement gave details of the outdoor space which would have been on offer at the site.

The statement read: “To cater for external leisure space, each dwelling includes an open private terrace and areas of communal external space are likewise provided.”

It also laid out how the applicant planned to deal with vehicle access and cycle storage.

The document read: “It is felt that the principal vehicular and service access should be from the less heavily trafficked Poulton Bridge Road.

“The existing vehicle access point adjacent to number 471 Poulton Road is retained for four cars and cycle storage.”

But the plan cannot go ahead currently, given Wirral Council’s decision to reject Mr Lightburn’s application.
