Bid for almost 50 homes on fields of Nottinghamshire village approved

Plans to build nearly 50 homes on fields in a Nottinghamshire village have been given the go ahead.

A planning application was submitted to  Gedling Borough Council for the development at Cornwater Fields in Longdale Lane, Ravenshead.

The proposed site will be based on 2.3 hectares of grassland, with access to the Ravenshead Leisure Centre.

A mix of 47 bungalows, maisonettes and two to five-bed houses will form the new development.

Access will be gained through a single access point off Longdale Lane, which has already been approved.

The southern strip of the development is intended to provide a greenspace where storm water could drain.

Residents in the village had welcomed the proposal.

Jenny Farmer, 55, of Ravenshead, said: "It's an affluent village, I'm not against the proposal. It will bring more people in which will help grow it. It's a sleepy village but I like it.

"I know outline consent was given for 70 homes there, but it'll be interesting to see how 47 properties go first of all."

Jason Marks, 40, also of Ravenshead, added: "The main concern would be extra traffic in the village. But 47 homes isn't loads, it's not hundreds we're talking about here.

"As long as there are no concerns raised by experts over flooding. I do understand there are benefits to new homes and councils have got to hit targets."

In their report, Gedling Borough Council planning officers said: "The proposed development would provide appropriate landscaping and be of a scale, layout, appearance that would be appropriate in the context of the surrounding area and would not have an adverse impact upon the visual amenities or residential amenity.

"The proposal provides appropriate and safe access internally and provides an appropriate level of parking."

A decision on the homes was made by Gedling Borough Council's planning committee on Wednesday, December 4.
