After running, crawling, hurdling and climbing for 1,000 kilometres, Erika Lori has smashed the Bibbulmun Track record by half a day.

Ms Lori completed the gruelling trail from Albany to Kalamunda in 10 days and 18 hours, breaking the time set by her friend and coach, Shane Johnstone, of 11 days and seven hours.

The track, one of the longest trails in the world, winds its way along WA's rugged south coast before turning north through Tingle and Karri forests and following the Darling escarpment north to Kalamunda in the Perth hills.

Up to 100km running each day

Ms Lori averaged between 80 and 100km a day to set the record.

"I was running, [then] crawling as there were lots of trees down due to the weather," she said.

"Hurdling, crawling and climbing … there was a lot of water, so swimming as well, I was not 100 per cent prepared for that, but I just took it as it came."

Ms Lori said the trail offered plenty of motivation.

"As much as I got sick of running on the sand on the beaches, they were just so pretty."

Mammoth effort thanks to supporters

Ms Lori paid tribute to her supporters, including family and friends who joined her for part of the run.

"I had a great support team — it took a village to get out there, I had pacers and lots of family who came out," she said.

She said there were times when she was "uncomfortable and not enjoying it" but she had set out to conquer the track, and knew she had to get the job done.

The stunning effort, however, took its toll on ms Lori's body and she ended up seeking hospital treatment after major swelling in her legs.

"Twelve hours after I finished, I went into hospital just to get checked up on," she said.

"I ended up looking 10kg heavier in the end from swelling but now the weight has come off."
