BHUBANESWAR: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch on Saturday seized 1.23 kg of brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore and arrested two peddlers from Baramunda area of the city.
Following a tipoff, the STF sleuths laid a trap to catch the inter-state peddlers, identified as Kapildev Majumdar (33) from Nadia district in West Bengal and Rashmiranjan Bhol (29) from Khurda.
Besides contraband, the STF also seized Rs 17,000 in cash, two laptops, a motorcycle and fake identity cards with photographs of them in police uniform and as doctors.
Deputy inspector general (STF) Jai Narayan Pankaj said the peddlers were using fake ID and posing as doctors to hoodwink the police.
In two years, the STF has seized 52 kg of brown sugar and heroine, 202 gram of cocaine and 93 quintals of marijuana and 750 gram of opium. It has arrested 146 drug dealers and peddlers.
