BHOPAL: It’s the season of compassion when people thrive on the joy of giving. Bhopalis being a magnanimous lot, the spirit of reahing out to the less priviliged rules supreme here, especially with such few days left for Christmas.
There are many in the Christian community, who are raching out to the poor and needy, to help them with essential commodities, medicines and warm clothes.
The tone and tenor of love and charity has been set by the new archbishop of Bhopal, AAS Durairaj, who is guiding the community to reach out to the under-privileged. “We are trying to ensure that the children who have lost even one parent to Covid, get their education free of cost in our institutions. And we are not giving this facility to Christians alone; it is for all faiths. It is vital that we alleviate the pain of those who are suffering. Even those who are battling poverty or disease can directly approach my office with valid douments and will be assisted,” said the archbishop.
YMCA is another institution, which is busy reaching out to the needy. Secretary of YMCA Bhopal, Thomas Mathai, said, “Bhopal is really cold now, so we have started distributing blankets to the homeless, who are forced to live on streets; we will distribute over 200 blankets and 1500 food packets till first week of January 2022. We have also contributed to donate wheelchair for critical care trauma centre at AIIMS, Bhopal. It will be delivered before Christmas.”
There are youngsters like Venky Matthew who have formed a small group to distribute medicines to all those who can’t afford it. “During winters, there are several cases of viral fever; there are many who can’t afford medicines. So we are trying to help them ” said Venky.
