BHOPAL: The searing heat and fear of a Covid spurt, going by what’s happening in some other states, have made parents in Bhopal jittery. They hope for an announcement of summer vacation, but the government seems to be having second thoughts.
The school education department’s delay in taking a decision on closure of schools for summer is making parents worried. Several kids have fallen ill in the past few days. Sick leaves have shot up. And many parents have stopped sending their children to school.
The school education department is waiting for the Class 10 and 12 board exams to begin. The CBSE exam schedule starts on April 26. “Once exams start, schools will have to stop classes. As such, there was no need to declare vacations,” said an official. “As of now, there is no information on summer vacation,” said another.
Parents are worried. “Both my children have had fever for the past few days. I requested the school management to declare summer vacations, but they said they are waiting for directives from the authorities,” said Anush Kumar, father of Class 5 students.
“Things are turning bad in some neighbouring states. I can’t put my child in danger,” said Rekha Sharma, mother of a Class 4 student. “There should have been vaccines for under-12 kids by now,” said V Prakash, father of a Class 3 student.
