BHOPAL: Finally, after a two-week gap, Bhopal received showers on Wednesday evening. The sudden rain that started around 7 countinued well till 10.30pm. However, other parts of the state are yet to get the relief. Infact, within weeks, Madhya Pradesh has turned rain deficient from a rain surplus state in absence of showers. Many areas in the state are short of rainfall quota.
MP has received 176.6 mm rainfall from June 1 till Wednesday morning while average rainfall for this period is 182.7 mm, leaving a deficiency of three per cent. As many as 21 places were rain deficient, including Chambal division and Gwalior, Shivpuri, Datia, Guna, Agar, Balaghat, Nivari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Damoh, Dhar, Alirajpur, Barwani, Burhanpur, Indore, Khandwa and Khargone districts.
However, the met officials are hopeful that shortfall would be covered soon with rainfall expected in the state from July 10 onwards. They said, widespread showers will be witnessed in the state; many places will also receive heavy rainfall. In fact, even before that, activation of local system due to heating in the day may bring some respite in the form of showers.
Day temperature in Bhopal stood at 37.8 degree Celsius which was five degrees more than the normal mark, while night temperature was 26.7, three degrees more than normal.
In the forecast for Bhopal on Thursday, met has stated, there would be partly cloudy sky with possibility of thunder and rain in parts of the city. Day and night temperature would be at 38 and 26 degrees respectively.
Met has issued a warning of thunder and lightning for places including Rewa, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Bhopal, Sagar and Hoshangabad divisions and for Guna, Ashok Nagar and Gwalior districts.
