Bhopal: Seven cops suspended for taking ‘bribes’ from betting rackets

BHOPAL: Seven policemen, including an ASI, of Aishbagh police station were suspended by SP (south) Sai Krishna Thota on Friday for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from betting racketeers in the area.

Aishbagh SHO Nilesh Awasthi has been issued a notice and the department will decide the next step after going through his reply.

SP Thota said police had received a complaint that some personnel of Aishbagh police station were taking money from betting racket operators.

On Friday, he issued the suspension orders of ASI JP Pandey and constables Atul Raikwar, Arvind Verma, Chandu Raghuwanshi, Kuldeep, Rakesh Thakur, and Gajraj.

The complaint was filed by a former civilian driver of a police vehicle, who had named 12 cops, say sources.
