Bhopal schools seek parents nod for offline exams

BHOPAL: As final-exam season approaches, some schools in the city have begun issuing notices to parents for their consent for offline exams. If parents opt for online exams, they are expected to give a reason for it.

Parents said that such initiative is good but schools should also accept the consent properly.

“I was happy to see that schools are asking about the consent of parents for online exams. I personally welcome such decisions,” said Hemant Jatav, a parent of class 8 student.

Parents said that the initiative will boost the confidence of the parents before sending their children to school.

“Schools are not forcing them for offline exams online which is appreciating. However, my only concern is that schools should not start pressuring parents the parents in the name of consent,” said Nishid Namdeo.

Schools reopened recently but very few students opted for online classes. Some schools switched to full online mode for classes because of very low turnout in the classroom.

“It was expected that parents won’t turn up much to send their children to the school in a situation Covid is still on the prowl. We can’t afford to run a full setup for a small number of students. Due to this reason, we did not open our campus for offline classes and also decided to take consent of parents for the offline exams,” said a school owner, requesting not to be named.

Until all kids get vaccinated, parents are wary of sending them to school. Though most child Covid patients recovered quickly, parents fear that infected kids may bring home the virus that could cause trouble for more vulnerable people at home, like elders. This is why most kids opted for online exams. Parents were also afraid to send kids to school out of fear that if they fall ill, their final exams would suffer.

School education minister Inder Singh Parmar made it clear on Tuesday that the MP Board exams will be organised in offline mode.
