Bhopal roasts in unusually hot March

BHOPAL/INDORE: Just two weeks into March, and it already seems like the agony of end-April. Large parts of Madhya Pradesh are baking in unprecedented heat.

For the second consecutive day, Hoshangabad suffered through a 'severe heatwave' while Rajgarh, Dhar, Ratlam and Khargone reeled under a heatwave.

A 'yellow warning' for heatwave has been issued for Indore, where the day temperature was 38.4 degrees Celsius - 3 degrees above normal. The highest minimum temperature in MP was recorded in Indore at 22.6 degrees - a whopping 5.6 degrees above normal.

Expect some relief from heat after 2 days: Met

In a span of 24 hours, the minimum temperature shot up by 1.4 degrees. In Bhopal, the maximum was 38.6 degrees, 4 degrees higher than normal. It’s feared that the mercury may touch 40 degrees in a couple of days in these two cities.

The hottest place in MP was Hoshangabad, at 42.7 degrees. Several places reported over 40-degree heat in the state. Officials of the meteorological department, Bhopal circle, said, the temperature will remain high as there is no system or moisture incursion, but a change in wind direc- tion after two days may bring some relief.

Bhopal’s day temperature may rise to 39 degrees on Saturday, says the weatherman. There is a heatwave warning for Ratlam, Shajapur, Narmadapuram, Khargone, Dhar, Khandwa, Damoh, Chhatarpur and Rajgarh districts.
