Bhopal: Road repair to begin on ‘war footing’ from October 1

BHOPAL: Bhopal divisional commissioner Kavindra Kiyawat ordered to start repair work of main and internal roads of Bhopal on war footing. The move comes after TOI story highlighting the poor state of roads during monsoon.

Earlier, the anticipated date of repair was pegged around mid-October, but Kiyawat, who is also the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administrator, has directed repair work to commence much earlier.

Top officials of PWD, BDA and BMC were present at the meeting. “Priority of road repair will be decided by officials and not the construction agency,” said Kiyawat. Main routes and internal routes are expected to be repaired ‘on a war footing’ in Bhopal city from October 1, he added. BMC commissioner KVS Chaudary was also present at the meeting.

Earlier, BMC had carried a survey which estimated that 50 main roads of the state capital need urgent repair. Officials shared detailed information about the roads, which have been damaged due to rain in the city.

According to the plan, between October 1 to 15, all repair would be undertaken on main and internal roads of the city; a detailed plan would be submitted to the state government by September 26.

Repair work would also include side-walks and parks on each side of the roads.
