BHOPAL: The nomination papers of four candidates for mayoral posts were rejected during scrutiny on Monday. Overall 181 candidates had filed nominations for contesting the mayor elections across 16 municipal corporations of the state.
“The forms of four mayoral candidates were rejected while 177 have been found to be valid. Information regarding candidates for the post of corporators is still being received,” secretary state election commission Rakesh Singh told TOI. A total of 33805 candidates, including 16163 men, 17637 women and five others, had filed nominations for the post of corporators in the civic bodies across the state, of which maximum 1594 people had filed nominations from Chhattarpur district.
Nominations were received from June 11 and June 18 was the last date for receiving nomination.
Civic body polls were announced in the state on June 1, elections will be held at 11 of the 16 municipal corporations in the first phase on July 6. The 11 municipal corporations where elections will be held in the first phase include Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Chhindwara, Ujjain, Sagar, Singrauli and Satna municipal corporations. And in the remaining five municipal corporations namely Rewa, Katni, Ratlam, Dewas and Morena elections will be held in the second phase on July 13.
