Bhopal: New departments, 131 CCTVs start at Hamidia hospital

BHOPAL: Multipoint CCTV surveillance has begun at Hamidia hospital. Inbuilding installation of similar technology has been a demand for doctors, after various incidents of assault against and accusations by affected for the same.

MP medical education minister Vishwas Sarang was present on the occasion. Sarang also was on site for the ‘trial run’ of three departments moving into new building of the largest tertiary care hospital of Bhopal. The move makes the realization of a 2000-bed new hospital.

A CCTV control room has been set up. Until now, GMC and Hamidia hospital have not had an integrated surveillance system. Camera’s have been installed but never with all angles of entry and egress being covered.

The new system is a gamechanger, as accusations and allegation of assault of abuse should be easy to identify. Doctors security has been a key demand, during various protests and some Court cases.

In all, 131 CCCTV cameras have been installed in the first phase. It also will add impetus to fire safety system. The visit by Sarang over three hours. In the meeting with GMC officials, Sarang reiterated ‘shortcomings should be overcome’. The minister has also sought a proposal for makeover of old Hamidia hospital block.

On day one of new block being open for patients, department of pediatrics was most active. The new facility will also cater to maternal and child care.

Latest deadline of completion of work in new Hamidia hospital block ended this month. Completion of work on new hospital has been delayed over four years. It has picked up pace during the pandemic. Project implementation unit provided reason for the delay.

A handover to GMC will only be after PIU gives a completion certificate.
