Bhopal: Need to speed up hearse service along railway tracks

BHOPAL: A number of accidents on railway tracks are reported in Bhopal on regular basis, but many times, the deceased are not accorded the dignity that they deserve. It is appalling to see that mutilated bodies remain lying on tracks for hours, in full public view, officials rued.

Sources claim that though the cops reach the spot on getting the information about such cases, it is an uphill task to transport the mutilated body from railway tracks to mortuary as they have to wait for the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) vehicles which are usually delayed. Many times, such delays create a law and order situation as family members of the deceased accuse the police of insensitivity.

In Aishbagh on Sunday, body of a 35-year-old man remained lying beside the railway tracks for over two hours. Investigating officer SI Narmada Prasad said, a team of Aishbagh police immediately rushed to the spot and alerted BMC control room to send Shav Vahan to transport the mutilated body to mortuary. However, the vehicle arrived after long two hours. “This delay of hours created a panic situation near the spot; people started gathering there, affecting the entire investigation,” said SI Prasad. In several cases, cops have to call private vehicles to transport the body, he said.
