BHOPAL: Malti Rai was sworn in as Bhopal mayor on Saturday, along with 85 corporators, and vowed she would walk the talk.
The 10th mayor of the state capital took oath of office in the presence of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who presented Rai a five-year road map of Bhopal. She promised to complete the task.
“It is the city’s confidence which has made me ‘Vijayshree’ by record votes. I assure you that I will never let this trust of the public be broken. The promises that have been made will not only be fulfilled, but there are many priorities which will soon be implemented on the ground. I believe in doing more than just saying thing,” said Rai.
Collector Avnish Lavania administered the oath of mayor to Malti Rai at 12 noon. The 85 councilors were administered the oath in five groups of 17 each.
Rai then headed to her chamber on the fourth floor of ISBT., where she removed her footwear outside the office and joined her hands before entering. She offered prayers for 30 minutes before sitting in the mayor’s chair. Later, the mayor left for Hanuman Darshan.
BJP state president VD Sharma, minister Vishwas Sarang and other leaders inaugurated the event.
