Bhopal: Mask use goes up to shield from dust rather than Covid

BHOPAL: Even the uninitiated are forced to mask-up while crossing commercial areas like Hamidia road in Bhopal. Thanks to the dug-up and unfinished state of the road. The area which pays crores of rupees in tax revenue is the state’s retail hub right from construction and electronics to agriculture and engineering products.

“Difficult to breathe is an understatement. If a speeding heavy vehicle passes through, visibility is reduced to barely 10 metre. The road has been dug for weeks now and there seems to be no signs of any respite,” said a traffic personnel stationed at Hamidia road.

It is one of the very few signals in the state capital, where active traffic commands are relayed through a loudspeakers. Standing in middle in poor visibility, is a risk most most are not willing to take.

An area BMC water works officer when contacted, said the company entrusted with the project has been penalized in the past.
