Bhopal: Man duped of Rs 18 lakh in online deal for oxygen concentrators

BHOPAL: A city-based medical equipment supplier was duped to the tune of Rs 18 lakh by an online fraudster. Acting on the victim’s complaint, cyber-crime branch registered a case on charges of fraud against unidentified accused.

ASP Ankit Jaiswal said, 28-year-old businessman stated in his complaint that in May when the second wave of Covid-19 was at its peak, he had posted a demand for oxygen concentrators on an online trading website. He received a call from an unknown number on which the caller introduced himself as Vipin, a representative of a Delhi-based firm, and proposed to supply O2 concentrators. The victim asked him to send a quotation.

The victim then asked Vipin to send invoices for the O2 concentrators, which was also sent through email. The accused then asked the victim to deposit an advance payment of Rs 18 lakh in two bank accounts. After the victim deposited the money in the bank accounts given by the accused, he broke all contact with him. Realising that he was duped, the victim filed a complaint with cyber-crime branch.
