Bhopal: Army man accused of using soldier’s ID for Rs 41 lakh loan

BHOPAL: A havildar in the Army has been accused of accessing the ID documents (PAN card and Adhar card) of a Naib Subedar and taking loans worth more than Rs 41.2 lakh from 14 banks and finance companies in Bhopal in his name, even though the victim was never posted in Bhopal.

When the victim approached a private bank in Kolkata for a loan and the officials checked his CIBIL report, he was informed about the outstanding loans in his name. Shocked, he came to Bhopal and approached CSP Shahjehanabad in June 2019 and filed a complaint. After a long investigation that lasted two years, Koh-e-Fiza police registered a case on charges of fraud against the accused on Wednesday and started the investigation.

Investigating officer SI BK Pandey said, complainant Jadhav Rajesh, 42, hails from Ahmed Nagar in Maharashtra; he is a Naib Subedar in Army and deployed in Rajasthan In his complaint to police, he stated that a few months ago, he approached a bank for a loan but the bank refused saying that loans of more than Rs 41.21 lakh from 14 bank accounts were sanctioned in his name, out of which loans worth more than Rs 25.29 lakh were outstanding. The victim was shocked to hear about outstanding loans. He found that the loans were issued in Bhopal but he was never posted in the city.

During investigations police found the involvement of another soldier who was once posted in Bhopal. He was earlier posted in Bengaluru in a clerical department and it is suspected that this is when he got hold of Rajesh’s documents. SI Pandey said the suspect’s last posting was in the northern sector and he is said to have gone AWOL.
