BHOPAL: A 46-year-old woman allegedly set herself ablaze after pouring petrol over her body in Nazirabad locality on Friday. She sustained severe burn injuries and died on the spot. Acting on information, Nazirabad police reached the spot and registered a case. Primary police investigations suggest that the woman was suffering from mental illness and was undergoing treatment.
SHO Nazirabad SI BP Singh Bains said that deceased Sushila Bai, wife of Mahesh Puri, a resident of Parsora village in Nazirabad, was a housewife. Mahesh told police that around 5.30am on Friday, Sushila went to his shop and took a can of petrol. She poured petrol over her body and set herself ablaze. She suffered severe burn injuries and died on the spot.
By the time the family members heard her screams and reached the spot, she had died. Police reached the spot on getting information and registered a case.
SI Bains said that the woman has two children. Elder daughter is married and a younger son resided in the village. Prima facie it was suspected that the woman was suffering from mental illness due to which she took the extreme step.
