BHOPAL: A conman and a woman allegedly lured a 24-yearold farmer in a honey trap after befriending him over a social media platform and called him to a room in Nishatpura where they recorded his obscene video with the woman. The accused blackmailed the victim threatening to share the video on social media platforms and demanded an extortion amount of Rs 20 lakh.
The victim informed Nishatpura police and then the cops nabbed the accused in a planned manner while they were extorting Rs 1 lakh from the victim farmer. Police registered an extortion case against the accused and arrested them on Thursday. Investigation officer ASI Jaswant Chandel said that the complainant, a 24-year-old farmer hails from Sehore district. He is married and has two kids. He owns around 20 acres of agricultural land. He stated in his complaint that around 15 days back, the accused woman sent him a friend request over Facebook. When he accepted her request, the accused started chatting with him and took his mobile number. He introduced herself as Puja Patel, a resident of Nateran. They started talking to each other and the accused woman asked him to meet her in Bhopal. The victim farmer agreed to meet her and reached Bhopal on October 11. The woman asked him to meet at Karond Square and took him to a house in Housing Board Colony Karond. She said that it was her friend’s rented house and she was staying there.
ASI Chandel said that the farmer alleged that at the room, the accused woman’s accomplice Manish Bedia, shot his obscene video with the woman.
ASI Chandel said that the terrified farmer approached Nishatpura police on Tuesday and informed them about the incident. Subsequently, police planned to nab the accused. As per plan, the farmer called Manish and told him that he could arrange only Rs 1 lakh. He asked Manish to collect money from him at Lalaria Jod in Berasia. He assured Manish that he would pay the remaining amount later. When Manish came to meet the farmer in Berasia, cops nabbed him and arrested the woman later.
ASI Chandel said that both the accused - Puja alias Divya Bedia and Manish Bedia, hail from Nateran in Vidisha district. Police were checking whether they duped any other people too using the honey trap modus operandi.
