Bhojpuri actress Akshara Singh joins Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Abhiyan, may contest Lok Sabha polls

PATNA: Well-known Bhojpuri actress Akshara Singh (32) on Monday joined "Jan Suraaj Abhiyan" of political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor, months ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Talking to reporters soon after joining the campaign at the "Jan Suraaj" office in the state capital Patna, Akshara did not rule out the possibility of contesting the next Lok Sabha polls from Bihar. “Given the opportunity, I will definitely contest the Lok Sabha elections," she said.

However, she dismissed the speculations that she might be fielded from Ara Lok Sabha constituency from where her former co-star and famous Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh (37) is reportedly vying for being fielded as the BJP candidate. Singh recently visited the BJP state office in Patna and met some senior party leaders. The Ara Lok Sabha seat is currently represented by Union minister RK Singh.

While announcing her joining at the Jan Suraaj office here, Akshara termed herself as a ‘Bihar ki beti’ (daughter of Bihar) who is deeply influenced by the 15-month long ‘Padyatra’ of Prashant Kishor, commonly called as PK. Kishor was not present at the Suraaj office during her joining as he is currently away in north Bihar as part of a state-wide padyatra (foot march).

The actress further said she joined the Jan Suraaj “mainly because it is a movement and not a political party.”
