Bhoiguda fire: Lone survivor dies in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The lone survivor of the fire accident at Bhoiguda succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Punjagutta on Saturday. The death toll climbed to 12 on Saturday. The deceased, Prem Kumar, was the only survivor of the accident that claimed 11 lives as he jumped out of the window after fire engulfed the scrap warehouse.

According to police, Prem passed away at around midnight at Apollo Hospital in Punjagutta. Cops said that they have sent the body to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem and would soon hand over the body to Prem’s relatives. Officials said that Prem’s immediate family members too will receive 5 lakh ex-gratia as compensation as promised by the government.

Prem Kumar had played a crucial role in identifying the charred bodies of the 11 Bihari migrant workers in the March 23 mishap. Hospital sources said that Prem sustained burn injuries on his chest which caused breathing difficulties. Further investigation is underway.
