The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on March 3 a plea for bail filed by activist Gautam Navlakha in the Bhima Koregaon case.

The Bombay High Court had dismissed his bail application on February 8.

A three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice U.U. Lalit would hear Mr. Navlakha’s appeal against the High Court order.

The prosecution case concerns allegations that certain activists made inflammatory speeches and provocative statements at the Elgar Parishad meet in Pune on December 31, 2017, which led to violence the next day. Police alleged that the event was backed by Maoist groups.

The National Investigation Agency is probing the case.
