CHANDIGARH : In a complete turnaround from its previous stand of contesting the upcoming Haryana municipal elections on its own, the BJP on Thursday announced that it would do so with its alliance partner Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). A formal statement on this was made on Thursday late evening by the state BJP president Om Prakash Dhankar and JJP leaders Nishan Singh and Digvijay Singh Chautala.
As per the agreement between both the parties, out of the total 18 seats of the municipal councils, BJP would contest on 14 and JJP would fight on four. The four seats given to JJP are Narwana, Tohana, Dabawali and Nuh. The decision on the election for 28 municipal committees has been left to the leaders of both the parties at local level.
Sharing the details, Digvijay Chautala, JJP general secretary, said both parties would work to ensure the victory of their candidates. Chautala said that the revised list of candidates would be released after discussion with the party leaders.
Last week, the BJP had announced to go alone .
