According to the ministry, the project is aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities in critical naval technologies and advancing the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat and 'Make in India' initiatives.
The marine gas turbine generators are used for power generation on naval warships and support critical combat systems, advanced weapons and onboard sensors. The ministry described the generators as a key component of modern naval combatants.
The contract is expected to help establish indigenous capability in the manufacture of marine gas turbine generators while providing end-to-end lifecycle support for the systems.
The defence ministry said the programme would contribute to maritime self-reliance in strategic technologies and enhance the Indian Navy's operational readiness through domestic production and maintenance support.
