HISAR: While addressing the first statue unveiling ceremony of former chief minister Chaudhary Bhajan Lal in Adampur of Hisar district through virtual medium, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said Bhajan Lal did the work of connecting the country while today’s government is breaking the country. He has seen for the first time in his life that the government of the country is attacking the people, Rahul Gandhi said.
In this function, Haryana in-charge and general secretary of Congress Vivek Bansal was present as the chief guest while state president Kumari Selja also addressed the function through virtual medium. Apart from this, Kuldeep Bishnoi, his mother Jasman Devi, his elder brother and former deputy chief minister Chandramohan, BJP MLA Duraram, BJP MLAs from Rajasthan Pabbaram Bishnoi and Bihari Lal Bishnoi, ex MLA Renuka Bishnoi, former MP Dharampal Singh Malik, Kulbir Bainiwal, Roshni Bishnoi and Chaitanya Bishnoi were also present.
Gandhi said today farmers are suffering, vehicles are being run on them while Bhajan Lal had worked for the interests of the farmer. He always kept the public interest paramount above the boundaries of caste, religion and region and ruled not only the seat of power but also the hearts of the people, Gandhi said.
According to Gandhi, “Bhajan Lal did work with complete integrity and honesty with my grandmother Indira Gandhi, my father Rajiv Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi. From the state to the national level, he made his own identity only on the basis of his work.
In the cabinet of my father, he also held the responsibility of the ministry of agriculture and forests and environment. The role he played in building modern Haryana as chief minister thrice during Congress governments in Haryana can never be forgotten.”
Gandhi said today he assures the people of Haryana that the Congress is ready to create an atmosphere to bring back the golden era of the then Congress government in Haryana.
Kuldeep Bishnoi said from Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhimrao Ambedkar to the people whose statues were installed, they gave a lot to the society. Bhajanlal was also such a rare person, who gave a lot to the society. He is very proud to have unveiled his statue today, Kuldeep said.
He said Bhajan Lal made many histories. While being the food supply minister, he first started the ration depot in the state, provided electricity to the villages, while being the chief minister, provided free education up to BA for girls, which was a historic decision, he also gave Rs 25,000 on the birth of the girl and got then prime minister Indira Gandhi started the construction of SYL canal in Kapuri village, Kuldeep said.
Meanwhile, Bansal, in the presence of three BJP MLAs on the stage, called upon the people present to go to Uttar Pradesh border on Thursday. He said the way to become a politician is easy, but to becoma mass leader, one has to devote his whole life to the welfare of the people, sacrifice and hard work. That’s why very few politicians are able to reach the top by following the path of a mass leader. Late Bhajan Lal has been one of those rare mass leaders, Bansal said.
In 1965, when a simple person contested the block committee elections, perhaps no one could have imagined that this simple-looking person would one day become an extraordinary figure in politics — establish the record for being the chief minister of Haryana the longest,” Bansal said.
