Britain's Got Talent star Beth Porch has opened up about feeling "helpless" after being struck down by coronavirus.
Singing nurse Beth, who works at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, moved both BGT judges and viewers to tears after performing original track You Taught Me What Love Is, a song she was inspired to be wrote from her time treating patients in a cancer ward. The song has since been released, with all proceeds going to the NHS and GOSH, and is currently number 2 on iTunes.
Beth, 25, appeared on Monday's Good Morning Britain straight from nightshift to speak to host Lorraine Kelly about her Britain's Got Talent success but also revealed what it was like to have coronavirus, after contracting the virus last month.
She told Lorraine: "Fortunately I only had mild symptoms. Like a lot of people who get coronavirus, I got flu-like symptoms and a bit of temperature. There were days when I felt really lousy but after two weeks and a few days to recover, I was able to go back to work.
"I really missed my colleagues and my normal routine. I felt so helpless when I was ill, so it was really great to get back on the ward.
"At Great Ormond Street, we don't have it as tough as staff in adults intensive care units but we have had to be flexible."
Praising Beth and all other NHS frontline workers, Dr Hilary Jones said: "They just want to be back at work. Their sense of duty is remarkable."
Beth auditioned for Britain's Got Talent earlier in the year before she had coronavirus. ITV have confirmed that this year's live shows have been postponed.
