BGC Charity Day: Prince Harry joins Sadiq Khan and Jimmy Carr on trading floor to honour victims of 9/11 attacks

The Duke of Sussex has joined a host of celebrities on the trading floor to commemorate the victims of the September 11 terror attacks.

BGC Partners hosts the annual BGC Charity Day at its Canary Wharf offices, in partnership with Cantor Fitzgerald, which lost two thirds of its staff in the attacks on the New York World Trade Centre in 2001.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Comedian Jimmy Carr and cricketer Monty Panesar were some of the public figures who joined Harry on the trading floor where, under the guidance of brokers, they competed in closing deals with clients over the phone.

Cantor Fitzgerald Chairman and CEO Howard Lutnick says he hopes to raise around $12 million (£9 million) over the day.

Wednesday marked the 15th event and commemorating 658 Cantor Fitzgerald staff and 61 EuroBrokers employees who lost their lives.

Before the event, Harry had met with former Invictus Games competitors and a portion of revenue from the day’s trades will go to the Invictus Games Foundation, of which Harry is a patron.

It is the second of two engagements in support of the foundation after Harry attended a reception to celebrate the anniversary of the Invictus Games at Guildhall in London on Tuesday.

The event marked five years since the opening ceremony of the first Invictus Games in London in September 2014, where more than 400 competitors from 13 nations competed.

Since then the Invictus Games have taken place in Orlando in 2016, Toronto in September 2017 and Sydney in October 2018.
