The BFI is calling on members of the British public to help document life during the coronavirus pandemic for its new Britain on Lockdown project.
The institution’s National Archive is asking people to contribute videos that best show how the UK has adapted to unprecedented circumstances, with communities coming together virtually during self-isolation.
BFI curators have picked out a selection of examples to follow, including the likes of Joe Wicks’ online workouts, videos of Boris Johnson discussing his coronavirus symptoms, the #RamadanAtHome video series and Victoria Emes’s parody video I Will Survive.
To contribute videos that have inspired, humoured or informed during the past few weeks, head here and share suggestions via the submissions form.
Heather Stewart, BFI Creative Director, said: “Life under lockdown has been really difficult for so many but it has given us an incredible historical and social record of the experience through online video in a way we have never seen before.
“From professional vloggers and filmmakers to everyday folk creating content on their phones shared across multiple platforms, from YouTube to Facebook, Twitter to TikTok – and of course all those Zoom calls, this content has made us laugh, cry, rage and has spurred us into action.”
