Beyond Paradise star Kris Marshall returns to Death In Paradise six years after quitting

Kris Marshall will make a shock return to the island of Saint Marie, six years after quitting Death In Paradise.

The actor stars as DI Humphrey Goodman in the BBC spin-off Beyond Paradise, which will come to a conclusion next weekend. It has now been revealed that Humphrey will make a return to Saint Marie in an emotional series finale.

A teaser video shows Humphrey - played by Kris - making a return to Saint Marie where he returns to his former home, the shack on the beach, and coming across a very familiar face from the past.

BBC bosses have teased fans will be very excited by the crossover, as Kris shared: "I was honoured and delighted to return to Guadeloupe as part of Humphrey’s journey in Beyond Paradise, and to rekindle my deep passion for the island."

Not much is known about the final episode of Beyond Paradise, but it begins when the police team at Shipton Abbot are faced with a very tricky case to crack. The burglary seems simple enough to solve, but the thief might not be as obvious as they think.

The burglary very much matches that of local criminal Atticus Styles, but forensic evidence points them to someone else entirely.

The suspect, though, was locked up in a police cell at the time of the crime. DI Humphrey Goodman, meanwhile, is struggling with the recent events, so much so that he is considering his future in Shipton Abbott.

Kris previously teased he could return to Death In Paradise for a special episode with all the other detectives from the past.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "I would say there's always a possibility of something like that.

"I’d love to bring them all back, really, for different reasons. I had such a wonderful time. I think it'd be awesome to have all four detectives in one show or one episode together, as a meta thing where their worlds collide."

Kris found it a "joy" getting back into his "crumpled jacket" for his role.

Speaking about reprising the role, he said: "I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next. So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK. Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way."
