Beyoncé's ‘Break My Soul’ soars to top of Hot 100, as ‘Renaissance’ debuts at No. 1, becoming year’s biggest debut by a woman

Beyoncé is dominating the top of the U.S. music charts this week.

The 28-time Grammy Award winner’s new album “Renaissance” has debuted in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

“Break My Soul,” the first single from the eagerly anticipated opus, has also ascended to the top spot of the Hot 100.

The 16-track project has landed at the top of the charts for the week dated Aug. 13. Following her previous solo chart-toppers, “Renaissance” amassed 332,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending Aug. 4, according to Billboard’s tracking service Luminate.

With the impressive first week numbers, Beyoncé earned the title of biggest debut of 2022 by a woman artist. Last year, Adele had the last album by a woman to top the charts with “30.”

According to her spokeswoman, “Renaissance” is also No. 1 in the U.K., Ireland, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, South Africa and Brazil.

Excitement for the 40-year-old superstar’s seventh solo studio album has dominated media cycles since its star-studded July 29 release. Aside from a few social media postings, Beyoncé and her Beyhive created a groundswell for the album without the usual media promotion. She has also not released a music video for the lead single.

Also on Monday, Billboard reported that “Break My Soul,” which debuted at No. 15 last month, rose to the top spot on the all-genre pop music chart.

The Robin S.-inspired bop, released June 20, is Beyoncé's first solo chart-topper since 2008′s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and her eighth solo No. 1 overall.

Remixes of “Break My Soul” by will.i.am, Honey Dijon, Terry Hunter and a collaborative remake of Madonna’s “Vogue” were released late last week. That formula has worked in the past; in 2020, Beyoncé made Billboard history with the “Savage” remix with Megan Thee Stallion.

All songs from “Renaissance” have also placed on the Hot 100 chart.
