Beyoncé nominated for 10 Grammys alongside ... the Ting Tings?

Beyoncé was given reason to celebrate today after she was shortlisted for 10 nominations at the Grammy awards 2010. The 28-year-old notched up the most nominations in a range of categories, including the most prestigious awards – record of the year and album of the year. If past form is anything to go by, the five-times Grammy winner is unlikely to go home disappointed from the awards in Los Angeles in January.

The R&B star wasn't the only artist who swept the board, however, as country singer Taylor Swift was shortlisted in eight categories. The 19-year-old dominated the American music awards last week after walking away with five awards, including artist of the year. Swift is pitted against Beyoncé in a number of categories, though the likelihood of a repeat performance like the one at theinfamous MTV Video awards in September is slim: Kanye West isn't nominated.

The Black Eyed Peas also notched up an impressive six nominations, including album of the year. The rap-pop quartet are no strangers to the Grammys, having won three awards in the last few years.

There were several nods to British artists, including the surprising inclusion of Manchester band the Ting Tings in the best new artist category. Former Grammys winner Adele also appears in the best female pop vocal performance category. Coldplay, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode are also nominated.

The Grammy awards were established 52 years ago to honour outstanding achievements in music. The ceremony is known for its long list of awards; this year sees 109 categories including best long form music video and best recording package.

The 2010 event will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 31 January.
