Beyoncé confirmed for Glastonbury 2011

Beyoncé has officially been confirmed for this year's Glastonbury festival, following rumours that she would join U2 and Coldplay as event headliners. The R&B star said she is "pumped" to perform for Pilton farm's "huge audience", and, like an R&B vampire, to "soak up their energy".

News of Beyoncé's billing at the festival came not from Glastonbury HQ, but in a press release from her label, Columbia. "This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there," she said. "Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend." Clearly she has never been to Glastonbury in the rain.

It's not clear whether Columbia's announcement was made with the festival's permission, or whether organisers intended to keep the 2011 lineup under wraps for a few more weeks. Organiser Michael Eavis is notoriously secretive with the festival programme, especially when he doesn't have to worry about ticket sales – the festival sold out almost four months ago, just hours after tickets went on sale.

While there is no more official news, U2 and Coldplay are widely rumoured to headline the festival. According to the Sun, the reunited Libertines have also been booked to headline the Other Stage.

Beyoncé attended Glastonbury in 2008, when her husband Jay-Z was Saturday night's controversial headliner. Tickets for that year's festival only sold out the week before.
