Beyoncé and Kings of Leon to headline V festival

Beyoncé is to make her only European festival performances of the year at V. Tickets for the singer's UK tour sold out in 12 minutes on Saturday, but fans now have the chance to see her in a field in Staffordshire or Essex in August. The second headliners to be announced for the festival, which takes place at two venues over two days with the acts rotating, are Kings of Leon.

V has a reputation as the most mainstream of UK festivals, and other acts confirmed so far include the Script, Emeli Sandé, Jessie J, Rita Ora, the Vaccines, Two Door Cinema Club and Olly Murs. Each will be hoping to avoid the experience suffered by Cher Lloyd last year, when the singer was booed off stage and pelted with bottles of urine on a bill topped by the Stone Roses and the Killers.

Beyoncé's sole festival of the appearance of the summer represents a coup for organisers. General tickets for her UK tour that were released at 9.30am on Saturday had sold out by 9.42 am, leaving fans, including Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington, disappointed. The Mrs Carter Show world tour begins its British leg in Birmingham on 26 April.

Now in its 18th year, V takes place across the weekend of 17-18 August at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire. Tickets go on sale at 9am on 1 March.
