Beverly Hills police investigating 12 sexual assault cases involving entertainment industry

Law enforcement officials in Beverly Hills are currently investigating a dozen sexual assault cases regarding people within the entertainment industry, including Harvey Weinstein and James Toback, police said.

The Beverly Hills Police Department declined to release the identities of any of the others who are being investigated, but confirmed there are presently 12 open cases.

"We take these allegations very seriously and are actively investigating them," a police spokeswoman said in a statement to the New York Daily News.

The police department has said in the past that allegations against Weinstein and Toback _ who have each been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women _ were being investigated. A BHPD official confirmed they are included in the 12 active cases.

"Any evidence of possible crimes will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Task Force for filing consideration," the department's statement reads.

Numerous actresses, including Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyong'o, claimed Weinstein made an unwanted sexual advance toward them early in their careers. Rose McGowan, meanwhile, is among the women accusing Weinstein of rape.

Authorities in New York and London are also looking into allegations against Weinstein.

The disgraced filmmaker has parted ways with his production studio, The Weinstein Company, amid the scandal, and received treatment in Arizona. His wife, Georgina Chapman, left him after allegations began to emerge.

Numerous women have also accused Toback, also a filmmaker, of sexual harassment or assault, including Rachel McAdams and Selma Blair.
