Beverly Hills Cop reboot: Eddie Murphy to return in Netflix sequel

Beverly Hills Cop is finally getting a new sequel thanks to Netflix

After years of development, the film has finally found a home with the streaming service, who has announced plans to produce a follow-up alongside Paramount Pictures.

The fourth film in the action-comedy franchise will bring back Eddie Murphy as reckless detective Axel Foley, Deadline reports.

It’s currently unknown when the new film will begin shooting, but Murphy is said to be free as soon as he finishes work on his next film.

Murphy told Collider: “Yeah, that’s what we’re doing after Coming to America, we’re doing Beverly Hills Cop. Then, the plan is to get back on stage and do stand-up, and then kind of that’s what I’ll be doing mostly is stand-up and Beverly Hills Cop.”

He described the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America reboots as a career “bookend”.

Murphy added: “I can get up on stage and do my stand-up and if, you know, some incredible filmmaker comes along with some great movie or there’s a great opportunity [then I’ll do it], but I’m not going to be making movies two, three a year like back in the early days, because I like to just be home with the kids.”

The actor has recently generated Oscar buzz for his role in new film Dolemite Is My Name, which is available to stream on Netflix.

Beverly Hills Cop was released in 1985 and grossed $316.4m at the box office.
