Beverley Callard warns Corrie son Simon Gregson she'll 'slap' him after rude vegan comments

Beverley Callard has warned her on-screen Coronation Street son Simon Gregson he'll be "getting a slap" after his wry remarks about her veganism.

The soap star, 63, was kicked out of I'm A Celebrity alongside Victoria Derbyshire in a double elimination tonight.

Speaking to hosts Ant and Dec, she was probed on whether her veganism was genuine or if she had just become a vegan for the show.

Beverley sparked controversy after she was given vegan alternatives during the eating trial, which saw her co-stars chomp down on testicles and penis.

But the Corrie star was given fermented tofu as an alternative - which not only raised eyebrows from viewers but also her former co-star Simon, who plays her character Liz McDonald's son Steve.

Dec told her: "Your on-screen son, Simon Gregson, had said: 'Rebecca, your daughter, is a vegan and I'm sure Bev's done it for all the right reasons - her health and to save the planet.'

"After a pause, he added, 'And if you believe that then I'm a mango.'"

Beverley laughed as Ant urged: "So you can come clean now - was it just for the show or - "

"No," she insisted. "I started it in March because I had an operation and I saw this documentary that said your joints heal quicker if you're plant-based. So that's what I've been doing."

Dec retorted: "There you go Simon, you mango!"

Beverley added: "Listen, he knows I'll give him a slap when I see him, so it's fine."
