Bev Callard reveals 'nightmare' she faced with I'm A Celeb's Simon Gregson on Corrie

Beverley Callard has discussed working with Simon Gregson as he appears in I'm A Celebrity.

The former campmate herself appeared on Loose Women on Thursday and threw her support behind her former co-star.

Bev, who played Simon's on-screen mum Liz McDonald, worked with the Steve McDonald actor from his very first day when he was 14.

And the actress has now revealed how he was a bit of a 'nightmare' with his practical jokes.

"He always used to make fun of me because I've got really little feet," Bev, 64, told Charlene White, Jane Moore, Gloria Hunniford, and Nadia Sawalha.

"He once took a pair of my shoes and hung them from the mirror in his car."

As the panel laughed, she said: "I know, I know. It's a nightmare."

Bev went on: "Then he discovered on one of the sets that had children in it some Barbie clothes and Barbie shoes.

"And he used to hide Barbie shoes all over the Rovers so I'd open the till and there would be Barbie's shoes."

Bev, who appeared on I'm A Celebrity in Wales last year, was also asked about supporting Simon on-set after he revealed some of the abuse he received after joining Corrie in 1989.

Opening up to his campmates on the ITV reality show earlier this week, the soap star said he was physically attacked, spat at and had abuse shouted at him by viewers.

"It was difficult for a while to adjust," he said as he discussed what it was like to join a soap. "It's like, 'This isn't what I planned for myself and I do not like it'."

Fellow I'm A Celeb star Kadeena Cox then asked if he really didn't like it.

"I hated it," he replied. "The fame side of it, I hated. It was really negative feedback, getting beaten up, spat at, property being damaged."

He added: "It was shocking."

Addressing the situation on Loose Women, Beverley said: "When I first met him he was 14-years-old and as you saw from the stills you put up there, he was a really good looking lad.

"He a good looking man but he was a really good looking lad."

She went on: "We used to say the twins, Steve and Andy, were a bit like Bros and all the girls fancied him so he was really bullied by the boys.

"There was a little bit of jealousy there from his peers.

"We helped him, Charlie and I, who played Jim, him with everything, absolutely everything."
