Betting turnover on Dundalk horse racing up 50% for Friday's card

Betting turnover on Friday's horse racing card at Dundalk was up by approximately 50%.

Ladbrokes report the significant rise in turnover in comparison to a normal card at the Louth venue.

It was a day for the punters as the action took place behind closed doors with six favourites winning.

Reverberation landed the opening contest before further favourites Aerclub, Tony The Gent and Juliet Rose won their respective races.

10/1 shot Getgo then triumphed in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap before the Crowne Plaza Dundalk Race & Stay Handicap was declared void after jockey Gavin Ryan suffered a fall shortly after leaving the stalls on his mount Guild.

Two more favourites in Fit For Function and Lequinto landed the remaining contests.

With the majority of sporting action cancelled around the world due to the coronavirus pandemic, a large number of punters enjoyed a bet on Friday's action.

Nicola McGeady from Ladbrokes said: "Turnover at Dundalk was up by approximately 50% in comparison to a normal card there. However with such uncertainty all round right now, people aren’t going mad."
