'Better than Aouar!' - Arsenal fans sent into transfer frenzy as Dominik Szoboszlai scores

Arsenal fans are on a scouting mission on matchday two of this season's Champions League group phase.

It's safe to say that the Gunners' summer transfer window was largely dominated by two midfield targets in Thomas Partey and Lyon's exciting playmaker Houssem Aouar.

In the end, the former was the one that Arsenal managed to seal a deal for after triggering his £45m release clause at Atletico Madrid on deadline day, with an announcement coming after 11pm.

However, Aouar was the one that got away.

In the last weekend of September, the 22-year-old was the subject of a bid from the Gunners which was rejected, but talks had been ongoing between the two clubs.

There was an expectation that Arsenal would return with an improved offer to get a deal over the line, but according to RMC Sport, Aouar emerged from a meeting with the Lyon hierarchy and announced to his teammates that he would be staying put.

And deadline day passed with the north London outfit missing out on one of their key targets.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal reignite their interest in Aouar come January or next summer, but one of Edu's next two transfer priorities has already been revealed.

football.london first revealed Arsenal's interest in Dominik Szoboszlai in the summer of 2019 and scouts have been in regular attendance at Red Bull Salzburg games ever since.

If scouts were in attendance for the Austrian outfit's Champions League clash against Lokomotiv Moscow they would have witnessed a stunning goal from Szoboszlai.

Equalising for the hosts on the stroke of half-time with an unstoppable effort from outside the area, the goal has sent many Arsenal fans into a transfer frenzy.

Take a look at what's been said on Twitter...

Whilst Arsenal have continued to monitor Szoboszlai, it is understood that no concrete approach was made in the summer window, with other clubs also interested.

And his agent Matyas Esterhazy previously stressed what would appeal to the midfielder if and when he decides to move on.

"When deciding about the future the most important thing that I will take into consideration is playing continuously," he told Hungarian publication Nemezeti Sport in July. "Playing in the Europa League or Champions League in the next year is not a priority. Some personal aspects will be also taken into account."
